As we've seen a rise in applications to MRes courses from international students, we would like to be clear about their status. MRes are postgraduate taught programmes that enable students to gain research skills so that they can then progress to PhD study, or use these skills in employment. MRes stands for ‘Masters by Research’ but these courses are not research-level.
As a result, they do not enable dependant eligibility, unless the student is government sponsored.
